Kent Morton knows water. He is a 4th generation owner in the water and sewer business. Kent's dad, E.J. "Mort" Morton, started his business in 1958. Being the oldest of 8 children, Kent spent many weekends and summers helping his dad in the business. After graduating from college in 1970 and marrying in 1972, Kent joined the family business and has been involved in all aspects of the water business since then. He is a two-time past President of the Iowa Well Water Association, which consists of pump and well contractors. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Onsite Waste Water Association, which deals with matters important to septic contractors. His career in water started by developing the pump and well work part of the family business. At that time, they were still pulling pumps by hand. Through the years, Kent learned other parts of the business as well. On November 1st 1999, Mort's Water Company in Latimer was established as a full water and sewer system service provider, employing 18 people.
In 2001 Mort's Water Company moved into a new facility at the corner of Highway 3 and the Latimer/Coulter corner. The location has a larger shop and warehouse as well as a significantly better location, allowing us to provide exceptional service with a wider variety of water services.
On July, 7 2014, Kent's youngest son, Brandon, joined Mort's Water Company, making him the 5th generation Morton involved in the water and sewer industry. Brandon has some experience working for Mort’s Water Company during high school, college and his 3 years while teaching at Hampton-Dumont. Brandon says he is excited to work alongside his father, the employees and our current and new customers.
After graduating from Iowa State University in 2004, Brandon was a Kindergarten – 5th grade technology teacher in Waukee. Brandon then earned his Master’s Degree in 2009 from Iowa State University. He moved to Hampton, becoming a Technology Integrationist within the Hampton-Dumont CSD so he could help teach teachers how to use technology with their students. His wife, Sarah, along with their five children, Charlee, Beau, Sylvie, Rocco and Jett, are excited to be in Franklin County where they are closer to home, family and friends.
